    The project approaches a complex issue ranging from geological / geochemical aspects to processing through energy efficient technologies of mining waste exploitation, and energy impact studies of non-exploitable mining residues and addresses both the scientific community and potential mining industry beneficiaries as well as the fields of intelligent specialization (auto, energy) and machine construction (equipment manufacturers). The 6 partners initiative - 5 national R & D institutes and 1 SME - is the first step towards a systematic, nationally updated database on secondary raw material resources, based on the valuation of useful elements from the region geology (types of rocks and geological structures), the deposits characteristics, the elements extracted through exploitation and finally the elements in the sterile tailings (in particular the sterile ponds). An absolute novelty element at national level is to approach case studies from the perspective of complex mining waste exploration technologies in close correlation with environmental regulations, to develop a secondary resource processing facility and one for testing the obtaining of raw materials technologies, which will allow, in the medium term, a quicker use of project results.

      General objective : To develop a national register of secondary resources for raw materials resulting from mining residues that will allow the re-positioning of mining sector from the point of view of providing the mineral resources necessary for a sustainable development of the country in a friendly environment conditions.

        Specific objectives:
  • Updating the integrated database for secondary resources of raw materials for mining residues , with an emphasis on waste dumps and tailings ponds, over a period of 1 year during the course of the project; at least 20 representative areas shall be sampled.;
  • Simulation under technical and economic conditions for the secondary resources processing of raw materials (tailings ponds) in order to identify ways to make them more efficient in a friendly environment conditions, with emphasis on studying the environmental impact in strict conformity with the European legislation;
  • The accomplishment of 3 case studies to ensure the implementation of the project results;
  • Establishment of 2 national debates and 5 regional debates in representative areas to inform the public on the exploitation of secondary mining resources and to start effective cooperation between institutions and authorities (ministries, relevant agencies, local organizations , chambers of commerce, NGOs, institutes and universities with concerns in the field, potential users).

Roxana Mioara PITICESCU

     Graduate of POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, Faculty of Industrial Chemistry, the Department of Organic Chemical Technology in 1983, obtained her Ph.D. in Applied Physical - Chemistry and Electro-Chemistry in 1997. Scientific Researcher 1st degree whose scientific and research activity is reflected in the publication of two books at national level, two book chapters abroad and over 45 articles, conference papers, 4 patents, 5 national patent appli-cations, 2 European patent applications and many other publications. She has coordinated (as project director / responsible) 8 international research projects and more than 15 national projects. She has also partici-pated in over 56 conferences / workshops. She has performed several long term training stages: Bursă NATO grant at CNRS/PROMES, Odeillo, France (November 2004 - January 2005); research stage at ICMAB, Spain (2000) and research stages at Politecnico di Torino, Italy (1999, 2003, 2004). She was an external evaluator of DG Research - European Commis-sion; PTA - European Commission; national expert of the COST Committee - Materials, Physics and Nano-sciences; evaluator of national research programs CEEX, RELANSIN, PNCD II, MATNANTECH, CNCSIS.

Adrian Mihail MOTOC

Scientific Director

    He is a graduate of the POLITEHNICA University of Bucharest, Department of Engi-neering Sciences (English) in 1999, obtaining his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engi-neering in 2008. Scientific Researcher 2nd degree has participated in numerous short and long term training and specialization courses, summer schools, scholarships: ASI NATO Scanning Probe Microscopy, Albufeira, Portugal; “2nd International Summer School on Nanosciences & Nano-technologies” – The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki- Greec; TEMPUS scholarship at the Manchester Metropolitan Univer-sity, U.K; NATO research grant on processing and characte-rization of ZnO nanopowders at CNRS / PROMES – Odeillo, France. He has coordinated and participated in numerous research projects in the field of synthesis and characterization of nanostructured ceramic mate-rials. As a member of the ASRO Technical Committee he participated in the elaboration of some standard projects. Author and co-author of 12 articles in ISI quoted or indexed publications, 7 articles in magazines or proceedings volumes indexed in other international databases, 2 books, more than 20 papers published in proceedings volumes / book of abstracts or presented (oral, poster) at the national / international scientific events, 2 European patent applications.
