The project is aiming to develop a new matrix alloy and brake disc assembly based on compositionally complex alloys (CCAs). The new materials will be able to provide high temperature operation at comparable wear performance with conventional materials. CCA is a new type of multicomponent alloy that is able to tailor various properties by compositional design and processing optimisation. The main objectives of the project are: the design of CCA compositions with required characteristics, the development of the laboratory technology for composite synthesis, the technological deployment of the brake disc sandwich based on new composite material and the environmental impact analyses of technology and products. The main applications of project results are in the automotive industry for either low size or heavy-duty vehicles. Newly developed brake discs based on CCAs will be able to reduce almost eight times the high-risk particle emissions of vehicles compared to the conventional systems...
